Dentaid The Dental Chairty

Giving Back to the People Behind the Smiles

At Dental Hygienics, we are proud to support Dentaid The Dental Charity, and over the past year, that support has taken two very different but equally meaningful forms. Our work sits at the heart of the dental profession. Every piece of equipment we service, every decontamination solution we supply, and every practice we support matters. Each one plays a small but meaningful role in helping dental teams deliver the care their patients depend on.

Yet behind every dental chair, there are people who never get to sit in one. People experiencing homelessness, poverty, abuse, or social exclusion, for whom access to even the most basic dental care remains out of reach. That reality has never been lost on us.

About Dentaid The Dental Charity

Dentaid The Dental Charity is a UK-based dental charity providing free dental care and oral health support to some of the most marginalised members of society. Importantly, their mobile dental units and volunteer-led outreach clinics bring treatment directly to communities that are least likely to access conventional dental services, including:

  • People experiencing homelessness
  • Those living in poverty or experiencing financial hardship
  • Survivors of domestic abuse
  • Refugees and asylum seekers
  • Vulnerable women and families
  • People in recovery from addiction
  • Traveller and Roma communities
  • Fishing communities with limited access to services
  • Cancer patients

Dentaid also runs the BrightBites oral health education programme, teaching children the importance of good oral hygiene, often for the very first time. Whether through a mobile dental unit on a city street or a pop-up clinic at a refuge, Dentaid’s work restores far more than teeth. It restores dignity, confidence and wellbeing.

Our Christmas Charity Campaign

Christmas Fundraiser for Dentaid by Dental Hygienics

During the 2025 Christmas period, we launched a festive fundraising campaign in support of Dentaid. Rather than the usual seasonal greetings, we wanted this Christmas to mean something a little more.

We sent a digital Christmas greeting to customers and contacts across the dental industry, inviting practices to book a service or make a purchase. For every qualifying booking or purchase, Dental Hygienics pledged to donate £10 to Dentaid. The campaign ran until 31 January 2026.

The idea was simple. Essentially, we wanted to turn everyday business activity into an opportunity to support vulnerable people. Every service call, every equipment purchase, every routine maintenance booking became a small act of generosity on behalf of our customers and the wider dental community.

The campaign was promoted through our social media channels, where we shared information about Dentaid’s work and the impact that even modest donations can make. We are pleased to confirm that the campaign concluded successfully, and a donation was made to Dentaid in support of their vital work.

We are genuinely grateful to every practice, colleague and contact who made a booking or purchase during the campaign period. You made that donation possible.

Felix’s Charity Haircut for Dentaid

Chairty Haircut by Felix for Dentaid the Dental Charity

More recently, one of our engineers, Felix, decided to take on a personal challenge in support of Dentaid. Felix had been growing his hair for some time and initially planned to donate it to a hair charity. After conversations within the team, he chose instead to use the haircut as an opportunity to fundraise directly for Dentaid The Dental Charity.

A JustGiving fundraising page was created and promoted across Dental Hygienics’ social media channels. Friends, family, colleagues and customers were invited to sponsor Felix and show their support. The response was genuinely heartwarming.

On Saturday 13 June 2026, Felix completed his challenge. The hair came off and the donations came in. Felix’s decision to take personal action, and the generosity of those who supported him, speaks to the kind of community-minded values that we believe the dental profession at its best embodies.

It is worth saying: this was Felix’s initiative. Dental Hygienics was proud to support and promote his fundraiser, but the motivation, the commitment and the rather braver decision to sit in the chair came entirely from him. We think that deserves a special mention.

Why Dentaid’s Work Matters

It is easy to take dental care for granted. For most of us, a routine check-up, a scale and polish, or treatment for a painful tooth is a phone call and a short wait away. For many people in the UK, it is not.

Poor dental health does not exist in isolation. It affects the ability to eat, to speak, to smile with confidence, and ultimately to engage in work, relationships and daily life. For people already navigating homelessness, trauma or poverty, dental pain becomes one more barrier. It stands between them and stability, work, and recovery.

Dentaid’s mobile dental clinics and outreach teams bridge that gap. Staffed by volunteer dentists and dental nurses, they take care to the people who cannot come to it, offering treatment that would otherwise simply not happen. For a person experiencing homelessness, sitting in a dental chair and walking away pain-free can be a profoundly significant moment.

That is why we chose Dentaid. And that is why we will continue to look for opportunities to support their work.

Thank You — and Looking Ahead

We want to take a moment to sincerely thank everyone who has supported either of these initiatives. To the practices and individuals who booked a service or made a purchase during our Christmas campaign, to the friends, family and supporters who donated to Felix’s JustGiving page, and to our own team who championed both efforts along the way: thank you.

Charitable giving is not about the amount. It is about the intention, the consistency and the willingness to act. Ultimately, both of these initiatives were small in scale but meaningful in spirit. Together, they reflect the kind of business we want to be: one that looks beyond our order books and considers the broader impact we can have as part of the dental community.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to finding more ways to give back, to support worthwhile causes within the dental sector, and to champion organisations like Dentaid whose work quietly transforms lives. To learn more about Dentaid, visit their website.
